A Night of Celebration: San Romero Vive

Oct 2, 2025 | Advocacy, Immigration, Press

Washington, DC –October 2, 2025 | On August 15th, The Shrine of Sacred Heart had the immense honor of hosting a powerful and uplifting community event to celebrate a hard-won resolution — the result of weeks of dedication and advocacy by the San Romero Committee. The event drew nearly 150 attendees from across the District, including church leaders, community advocates, and local residents united by a shared commitment to justice and dignity for all.

Held on the church steps, the evening was a vibrant gathering of voices and visions. The resolution was formally presented to the community, which recognizes and uplifts the figure of Saint Romero in the DC area — a milestone directly shaped by the tireless work and leadership of the San Romero Committee. Their grassroots organizing and unwavering persistence not only brought this resolution to life but also created a moment that brought our broader community together in solidarity and celebration.

Local church leaders and longtime community leaders spoke, offering reflections, blessings, and messages of unity. This official recognition from the city is also due to Brianne Nadeau’s resolution sponsor, Councilmember for Ward 1 and tireless friend of the Latino community, who sent words of support and recognition for the efforts of the committee and the importance of the resolution for the community at large. The highlight of the night came in its final moments when Lilo Gonzalez — a historical singer, songwriter, and activist whose music has long been a voice for the people — took the stage for an intimate concert. His moving performance paid tribute to the struggles and triumphs of our community and reminded us of the enduring power of art in the fight for justice.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who attended and supported this event. Most importantly, we celebrate the San Romero Committee for their vision, their labor, and their love for our community. This resolution is a testament to the power of organizing and the spirit of collective action.
