CARECEN Reaffirms Commitment to Immigrant Communities in the Wake of Election Results

Nov 6, 2024 | Advocacy, Immigration, News

Washington, DC

We are incredibly proud to have celebrated CARECEN’s 43rd Anniversary and over four decades of serving the immigrant community in the greater DC area. This year, one of the most inspiring moments was hearing the testimony of our paralegal. Erminia first came to CARECEN in 2014, seeking legal services after entering the US as an unaccompanied minor. Today, she is a vital staff member of our legal department, providing immigration legal services to others in her community. This year, Erminia became an American citizen and cast her vote in her very first election!

As we celebrate these victories and reflect on the progress we’ve achieved, we are also confronted with a new reality of the November 5th election results which bring uncertainty of what the future holds under the incoming administration. We recognize the challenges that lie before us: the growing xenophobic rhetoric and plans for what could become the largest deportation effort in history. These threats undermine the dignity and well-being of many families and individuals that contribute to the strength of this nation.

It will be a hard struggle, but we stand firm, knowing that now, more than ever, our community needs us—and we need YOU.

For those that want to take action, we ask that you join us in this fight by ensuring that CARECEN remains strong and ready to confront this critical moment. CARECEN will continue to work alongside elected officials and immigrant rights coalitions to fight all harmful policies.

We are inspired by the resilience of those we serve, and we remain hopeful that with your support brighter days are ahead.

Together, we must DEFEND IMMIGRANTS.

In Solidarity,

Abel Nunez
