Washington, DC – May 9, 2025 – The DC Latino Community Forum Coalition (FCLDC) is proud to announce the release of its policy brief, Advancing Equity for the Latino Community in Washington, DC, a comprehensive report addressing the pressing challenges faced by Latino residents in the District and presents actionable recommendations for elected officials to foster meaningful progress.

The FCLDC will host a press conference on Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 AM at Sagrado Corazon located at 3211 Sacred Heart Way, Washington, DC 20010. Community members, advocates, policymakers and media are invited to attend.

This initiative builds on a legacy of community-driven efforts, such as the response to the Mount Pleasant riots in the early 1990s, which brought together stakeholders to tackle barriers and propose actionable solutions. Decades later, the FCLDC continues this tradition by convening leaders and community members to identify current challenges and foster collaboration.

This policy brief is the result of extensive engagement with community members, civil society leaders and supporting agencies. Over 1,300 residents participated in surveys, identifying education, housing, health, transportation and language as top priorities. Furthermore, the coalition facilitated seven coordination meetings and a community forum with over 250 attendees, culminating in robust discussions and collaborative problem-solving.

“The Latino community is an integral part of Washington, DC’s identity, driving economic growth, cultural vibrancy, and civic engagement. It is imperative that our voices shape the policies and funding decisions made by our elected leaders, ensuring full inclusion and equitable opportunities for all. By uniting and creating a powerful mechanism to uplift our shared experiences, we stand ready to collaborate with city leaders in forging solutions that strengthen not only our community but the city as a whole.”

Abel Nuñez, Executive Director of CARECEN
